The Sous Chef will lead all culinary operations for west~bourne s Soho location as directed and inspired by the west~bourne culinary vision. We re looking for a dedicated coach, a strategic thinker, a solution seeker, a collaborative multi-tasker, and a superb communicator. This leader will exhibit and uphold west~bourne s standards of excellence in all areas of culinary operations including DOH compliance, food quality control, menu development, events + catering functions, team management & development, kitchen facilities, creative projects and financial accountability when it comes to purchasing. The Sous Chef will manage culinary development for team members from basic cooking skills to recipe adherence in addition to creating clear, achievable opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and professional development amongst our talented team.

  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, contributing creative ideas and constructive solutions to motivate and develop team members, to improve operational productivity, to build relationships with all of west~bourne s stakeholders, and to enhance our brand
  • Experience with employee scheduling, inventory management, prep production schedules, waste management, food costing, culinary training, culinary operations systems
  • Has a NY Food Handler s Certificate
  • Have a genuine desire to have a meaningful impact on the community
  • 5+ years of experience cooking in restaurants, including high volume with at least 1 year in a supervisory role

What You ll Do:

  • Oversee day-to-day culinary operations of west~bourne s Soho location, including purchasing, daily prep lists, expediting service, inventory management and organization, while maintaining exceptional quality, achieving high performance and profitability, fostering authentic and caring guest relationships, and uplifting the west~bourne brand and culture
  • Ensure restaurant is DOH compliant at all times within culinary, facilities, and dining room categories
  • Develop strategies and tactics to manage and be accountable for culinary responsibilities such as labor efficiency, food cost controls, ordering, inventory management and consistency in quality of food
  • Lead weekly culinary prep flow production, minimizing repetition and maximizing efficiency and time management
  • Ensure all culinary SOPS are effectively in place and fully aligned with the west~bourne brand, all with a mindful, wholistic approach
  • Passionate about being a culture carrier for the west~bourne brand and its core values, leading by example day in and day out by: managing multiple projects & tasks concurrently, staying calm & positive under pressure, proactively seeking solutions, holding themselves & others accountable to west~bourne standards, and finding empowerment in collective efforts
  • Collaborate with the Culinary Director in the hiring, training, coaching, and overall development of culinary team members including but not limited to performance reviews, cross-training programs, continuing education, development opportunities, and leading Culinary Labs
  • Ensure that all employment decisions and payroll responsibilities are compliant with applicable state and federal law
  • Oversee in-store team on a day-to-day basis, working alongside the Culinary Director and General Manager to ensure that all employment decisions and payroll responsibilities are compliant with applicable state and federal law
  • Supports Events + Catering Manager in culinary execution of all Events + Catering Contracts
  • Advises General Manager in preventative maintenance and replacement decisions for kitchen equipment and facilities
  • Activate our community by developing regular guests, maintaining high-quality relationships with suppliers and partners, and ensuring a memorable guest experience from start to finish so our neighbors want to return again and again
