Responsible for supervising activities related to case carts (if applicable), instrument decontamination, instrument preparation, distribution of supplies for the OR and other areas of the hospital. Collaborates with OR Director, OR staff ,such as the Clinical Coordinator or specialty charge nurses, to assure adequate and timely delivery of instrumentation and supplies for posted procedures. Works with Lead Equipment Tech to develop specialty instrument trays for surgeons and services as required to support specialty programs. Assists with coverage as needed for CPD Manager and other CPD supervisors.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive orientation and education program that will ensure the competencies of the staff in CPD. Functions as backup to the CPD Director when (s)he is not available. In conjunction with CPD Director, assists with the development of policy and procedure to assure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Manages the CPD payroll and expense budgets and is able to explain variances. Participates in development of annual expense and payroll budgets. Participates in committees as assigned.
Ability to read and communicate in the English language. High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of CS or technician school and is certified as a C.R.C.S.T. or C.S.P.D.T ,and is certified as a C.H.L. Minimum three years previous management experience required and five years experience in the sterile processing field. Familiarity with principles of sterile techniques and infection control, strong knowledge of surgical instruments and related patient care equipment and supplies and ability to understand equipment and supplies.
Must become a certified Instrument Specialist, and certified in flexible endoscope reprocessing within 1 year of hire.
