The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of journey work duties in the HVAC trade i.e., preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, replace the heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and refrigeration equipment on all campus facilities. This position will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance on air cooled and water cooled chillers up to 250ton which include scroll, screw & reciprocating chillers as well as boilers that range up to 200hp which includes water tube, atmospheric, natural gas, electric, oil & LP equipment. Air Handler units associated with mechanical systems of both classroom/academic facilities and auxiliary facilities. Residential A/C equipment includes equipment such as window units, heat pumps, water source and LP equipment. Refrigeration equipment consist of walk in coolers, walk in freezers and ice machines that include cube and shaved ice. This position will be responsible for the installation, modification, adjustment, troubleshooting, repair, replacement of HVAC and refrigeration controls and building automation systems. Both DDC & pneumatic controls are used on various pieces of equipment. These systems consist of computer operated hardware with remote processors, and field devices, interconnected to provide transfer of information and remote operation and control of a large number of components, i.e. valves, dampers, VAV boxes, air compressors, etc. The position also services equipment such as solid state motor starters, variable speed drives, and electronic controls. Position includes but is not limited to insuring the HVAC needs of ALL campus facilities are maintained and/or repaired according to the standards set for by UNCP guidelines as well as the NEC, NPC & any other applicable codes and/or guidelines such as CFC requirements. UNCP as a whole campus wide currently has around 40 facilities and around 1.3M square feet. Work performance is reviewed by inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with project plans and specifications and departmental work orders. This position is Mandatory Personnel: Mandatory Employees: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events. High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
