Program Summary:

The Horizon Internship Program offers aspiring professionals an opportunity to build a strong foundation of business acumen, technical skills, and knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry. Position Summary:

The intern, data science is responsible for the application of advanced analytics to claims datasets and the synthesis of insights. This role will leverage cutting edge data science technologies and methods to help business leaders across the company make appropriate data-driven decisions. The intern will design, develop, and implement machine learning algorithms, and will serve as an internal advocate for the power of data science. The role will collaborate with other stakeholders across the business to drive growth for our brands.

Support the implementation of advanced analytics in support of our commercial teams, including explorative applications of machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligenceUtilize machine learning to build predictive models for application in patient support programs

Learn process of building and fine-tuning algorithms that scale up from small-scale proof-of-concept stage to full production systems
Enhance automated capabilities which enable the application of machine learning across Horizon's portfolio of medicines
Create insightful visualizations that can help a non-technical audience make sense of complex datasets
Support the identification of business opportunities for leveraging data science data mining efforts to solve unmet medical needs
Identify and shape business challenges and opportunities into analytical, data lead solutions, ranging from scoping and evaluating data opportunities to developing data-driven insights, data models and recommendations to fuel strategic growth
Cross-functional engagement with multiple business units
Participate in ad hoc projects and tasks as needed

Qualifications and Skills Required:
Must be a current graduate student working towards a Master's degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Math, Statistics or related)
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Prior experience with predictive modeling required
Proven experience with Python required; experience with distributed computing technologies for machine learning, such as Apache Spark and Linux, is a plus
Experience in biotech / pharmaceuticals preferred but not required
Direct experience with forecasting and / or claims data analysis is a plus
Knowledge and familiarity with deep learning and it's use in time series applications; implementation of LSTM neural networks a plus
Expert at: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to translate data analysis into actionable insights and strategy
