We have an opportunity for a Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our growing and award-winning California team. The primary duties of this position include all aspects of engineering, project management, project pursuits, and client relationship management for projects primarily focused on organics, municipal solid waste (MSW), and recycling industries, with an emphasis on planning, feasibility analysis, cost estimating, design, pollution control systems, and permitting/regulatory compliance. Specific duties will include planning, permitting, and site layout/infrastructure elements for organics diversion.
The Civil/Environmental Engineer will function as a technical writer, project planner, project design lead, and project manager on mid-size to large projects, and is expected to demonstrate a history of progressive experience effectively leading similar scale projects.This person will be responsible for assisting team leadership in sustaining and growing client relationships and organizing and contributing to overall business development opportunities.A core component of this will be identifying upcoming project opportunities and participating in the project pursuit and proposal development, including developing scopes of work and budgets.
In the role of Civil/Environmental Engineer, we'll count on you to:
Assist our clients explore and select preferred methods of operations to comply with pending Climate Action organics diversion goals of SB 1383.
Prepare feasibility studies exploring various alternatives for consideration.
Interact with clients in assessing conditions, calculating the cost and environmental impacts of various options, presenting findings.
Work with HDRs Design Center team when needed for the preparation of design plans and specifications for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
Write technical memorandums and reports that communicate to a broad spectrum of readers, including engineers, the general public, regulators and elected officials.
Perform quantity calculations
Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this position
Perform other duties as needed
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or relevant area of study.
5+ years experience in the organics, solid waste, recycling, composting, or other relevant planning or related experience dealing with the feasibility planning, permitting, environmental review, design, construction, or operations of facilities is preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Good verbal and written communication skills
