Position Description

The Chief Operating Officer of AU Medical Associates, Inc. (AUMA) and Vice President of Ambulatory Services of AU Health System, Inc. (AUHS) is the senior-most, non-provider administrative leader responsible for strategic, operational, and financial leadership of AUHSs physician enterprise. _______________This individual will report to the AUMA CEO and AUHS CEO and work in close collaboration with other AUHS vice presidents and senior executives, clinical department chairs, and the Deans Office of Augusta Universitys Medical College of Georgia (MCG). _______________This individual must possess strong operational and visionary capabilities to advance the organizations efforts in quality, safety, and clinical practice efficiency, through the provision of strategic direction, operational oversight, and financial management of AUMA and AUHS. The COO of AUMA/VP of Ambulatory Services of AUHS will play a lead role and serve as liaison for AUMA and AUHS in further developing the organizations relationships with payors, key vendors, partners, and affiliates as they relate to business planning activities. As an influential executive within AUHS, this leader must be results driven, collaborative, and focused on the missions of the Health System and Augusta University. _______________As AUMA COO, this individual will specifically serve as the primary operating officer of AUMA. The COO will be responsible for the administration of the faculty group practice and for the business operations of the group practice under the direct oversight of the AUMA CEO. The COO will be responsible to the AUMA Delegates through the CEO and Chair of the AUMA Board and will report regularly to the Delegates. The COO will represent AUMA in its dealings with entities and officers internal to MCG and AUHS, and other, external entities as the CEO may designate from time to time. The COO will assist the CEO and the AUMA Board in developing and implementing a long-term vision, strategic plans, and the policies of AUMA. The COO will assist the AUMA Board, the Officers, and the AUMA Board committees in carrying out their functions._______________As the AUHS VP of Ambulatory Services, this position serves as the administrative leader responsible for strategic, operational, and financial leadership for ambulatory services within the AU Health System. This individual will work in close collaboration with respective health system leaders, clinical department chairs and administrators, under the direct oversight of the AUHS CEO. As an influential executive with the health system a successful incumbent must be results driven, collaborative, and focused on the missions of the Health System and University. ________________

Position Requirements

Required Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance or related fields________________10 years or more progressively responsible administrative experience and demonstrated leadership in the management of clinical practice administration, business activities, or finance ________________ Extensive operational experience and a record of success in complex settings, preferably within an academic medical center, faculty group practice, or health system. Experience in business development, including strategic planning and operational leadership which includes significant budgetary and clinical operations responsibility. Strong understanding of academic faculty and clinical programs. The ability to lead and work in collaboration with a diverse leadership group and relate to a broad group of executives and stakeholders. A track record of success working in an environment of collaboration, transparency, mutual respect and shared passion for excellence and innovation. Experience leading a team of skilled, independent and competent senior executives and the ability to plan and delegate assignments, review work, and supervise. The ability to plan, organize, prioritize, allocate resources, and manage multiple ongoing, concurrent projects. Knowledge of value-based payment models, including an understanding of services impacted by managed care and health reform legislation. Experience with evidence-based medicine and emerging models of population health management. The ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Knowledge of industry benchmarks, best practices and total quality management techniques for process improvement. Knowledge of regulations of coding and billing, payer reimbursement policies and the revenue cycle. Knowledge of employment laws, healthcare rules and regulations, policies and procedures Previous experience with departmental budgeting and management of multiple funding source, financial analysis, modeling and third-party reimbursement. Ability to ensure coordination and optimization of operations across service lines, including, medical, nursing, ancillary, and administrative teams. Broad and thorough knowledge of organizational management theory and practice, financial systems and controls, healthcare regulations, and IT system management. Use initiative, independent judgment and highest level of confidentiality in all efforts and interactions. Awareness of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations related to the clinical enterprise. Knowledge of information systems, business processes and computer hardware/software.

Preferred Requirements

Strongly Preferred Education: Masters degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Finance, or Accountancy/CPA or related field _______________Preferred Experience: 10+ years or more progressively responsible clinical administrative experience and demonstrated leadership in the management of clinical, ambulatory business activities, or finance________________
