About the job As a member of Google s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You ll combine creativity and intellectual rigor with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.The Centers of Excellence (COE) within Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) is a hub for strategy and expertise on the global government affairs and public policy issues impacting our business today and in the future, ensuring that Google has a truly global perspective on our public policy issues. The Data Governance CoE pursues this mandate for issues related to privacy, information security, government access, digital infrastructure, and other topics related to data protection and data governance. We are subject matter experts in our functional area and we think across product and geographic boundaries to inform, protect, and advance the goals of the companyIn your specific role as Privacy Senior Analyst within the Data Governance COE, you will be part of a dynamic, global team of privacy, security, and data governance experts with deep subject matter expertise. You will shape the broader public policy team s voice on the range of issues related to privacy and data protection. You are on top of data protection trends around the world and understand their importance to the company and its users. Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others views and opinions, and distill and share the company s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect. Responsibilities Provide functional expertise on privacy matters and related regulation to product and regional teams. Advise on issues related to privacy, user control, and transparency during product design, development, and launch.Monitor privacy developments (primarily but not exclusively in Europe) and support engagement strategies with external stakeholders.Support outreach and directly engage with policymakers, industry players and key opinion formers in thoughtful dialogue about Google s efforts to earn users trust and be responsible stewards of users information.Develop content and tools to help scale the company s capacity on privacy issues. Qualifications Minimum qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Government, Public Affairs, Computer Science, or a relevant policy or technical field, or equivalent practical experience.7 years of experience working on privacy and/or, cybersecurity policy issues within industry, government, think tanks, or public interest groups.Preferred qualifications:Experience engaging with policy stakeholders or domain thought leaders internationally.Demonstration of ability to bridge policy and technical communities.Domain expertise at the intersection of privacy and internet technology.Team player, adept within global, cross-functional teams. Operates well within ambiguous environments and on emerging issues.Ability to connect how public policy intersects with business and technical matters.Strong judgment, adaptability, initiative, communication skills, political acumen, and attention to detail.
