This position leads the Office of Auxiliary Enterprises, an organization within the Administration division. The AVP for Auxiliary Enterprises directs all auxiliaries with a focus on supporting the University mission, providing exceptional guest experience, enhancing to the academic mission of the University and contributing to the long-term financial health of the institution. The role prepares, controls and monitors budgets and operations of the ZagShop, Zag Dining, GUEST, Mail Services, Print Services, retail leasing, vendor partner contracts and relationships as well as smaller and other auxiliary services as assigned; and is responsible for providing services both directly and indirectly to faculty, students, staff, and the University’s community. Continual analysis of business practices, processes and metrics; preparation and monitoring of five year plans using budget analysis, forecasting and accompanying narratives. This position functions with latitude to consider courses of action within university policies and objectives; and interacts with all University departments and vendor partners to ensure goals are met. Operates auxiliaries on a self-sustaining financial basis, providing the best services at the most efficient cost. May be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description as the area continues to flex and grow within the division of Administration to suit the need of Gonzaga University. Work Schedule Standard office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Incumbent may work non-standard hours as needed. Hours per Week 40 Months per Year 12 Employment Status Regular Temporary or Fixed-Term Assignment End Date Total Rewards DOE Essential Functions Directing Operations – Visiting with departmental teams, reviewing operations, providing direction/feedback and ensuring focus on exceptional guest service, financial performance and stewardship of University assets and resources. Budget and Financial Performance – Create, monitor and control all aspects of financial performance in collaboration with the Universities strategic priorities, departmental expectations and contractual obligations. Strategic Vision – Creates a short-term, mid-term and long view of all Auxiliary operations based on the University Strategic plan, current trends, changing needs and demographics. Human Resource Management – Guide and develop staff through reviewing performance, providing development opportunities, and staffing needs. •Meet regularly, at least once a month, with all direct reports •Manage performance on an ongoing basis throughout the year for direct reports and ensure effective performance management for indirect reports •Create and ensure opportunities for team development through multiple mechanisms and support recognition efforts that build morale •Support and contribute to hiring efforts that meet our operational and mission needs •Ensure all staff are effectively on-boarded to their role •Actively build relationships and demonstrate a bias for collaboration. Address and resolve conflicts. •Communicate regularly with all team members through multiple mechanisms University Community and Division Involvement – represent the division and the Auxiliary Enterprises areas via: meetings, correspondence, negotiations, community involvement, verbal communications, electronic media systems and participation in University events. Other Functions Supervision Given/Received Position reports to the Vice President for Administration. The Associate Vice President will provide supervision to direct reports in Auxiliary Enterprises. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Education can be replaced with experience. Administrative experience in a university center, student center, college union or other closely related activity in higher education. At least five years’ experience leading and developing teams. At least five years’ experience with RFPs, contract negotiation and development. Strong business or operational financial acumen. Proven track record of successful business development and execution. Proven ability to prioritize high volumes of work from a multitude of sources while maintaining the highest quality standards; exceptional organizational skills; Desired Qualifications Graduate degree in a relevant field. At least 10 years’ business, leadership and contractual management experience. CASP Certified preferred.
