Job Description

The Director, Sales Planning will lead all Planning efforts in support of the Advertising sales strategy at the New York Times. The Director will oversee the growth and ongoing management of a large US-based Planning department and ensure excellence in all areas of pre-sales policy creation, process adherence and revenue generation. As Director, Sales Planning you will manage several Planning Managers and their teams of Sales Planners, with focus on onboarding and accuracy in media plan execution. The Director, Sales Planning will be a strategic partner to our Advertising Sales team and provide thoughtful and compelling programs and solutions that deliver successful outcomes for our Advertisers. You will be an expert in digital advertising platforms, systems and products and advise our advertiser and agency partners of New York Times solutions that meet their goals. The Director will engage with NYT sales andoperations leaders to build out our expertise and NYT offering in order to further strengthen our overall media strategy.


Responsibilities:

  • Build, inspire, and mentor a world-class advertising sales planning team
  • Create a culture of continuous learning for the Planning team, improving daily operations and developing the next generation of leaders
  • Manage a team of Planning Managers and Supervisors with responsibility for client relationships, all media planning functions and management of individual Sales Planners
  • Lead a large department of 20-25 employees, while partnering effectively with Sales & Ops leadership to accomplish business objectives and provide excellent customer care
  • Provide strategic direction around policies and best practices for the global Sales Planning team
  • RFP Workflow Management: Create and optimize necessary workflow and internal communication for maximum efficiency, productivity andeffectiveness. Ensure proposals delivered to prospects in timely manner
  • Ensure accuracy of all proposals: product mix, pricing, flights, T&Cs
  • Manage all contract T&Cs/MSAs and advise best practice, working closely with our legal and data policy teams
  • Help refine roles and responsibilities to achieve clear and effective organizational structure
  • Serve as liaison between Ad Product, Ad Platforms, Ad Operations, Sales and Finance, assisting with new product and policy commercialization efforts
  • Provide high level project management and leadership for the team
  • Partner with Yield and Ad Operations to provide strategic guidance on pricing, packaging and delivery options and oversee adherence to ratecard and other policies
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in finance, sales, marketing, product, legal and HR to align company-wide strategies and tactical plans
  • Become the chief champion for the Sales Planning department across theAdvertising organization
  • Lead change management across cross-functional teams to generate buy-in and adoption of Planning process and systems, including Salesforce and Lineup Adpoint order management system
  • Assist in evaluation and adoption of new platforms and processes to maintain an up-to-date industry standard across the Pre and Post Sales Operations organization.
  • Ensure department-wide adoption of Privacy policies in concert with our Legal and Data teams

  • BA/BS preferred with strong academic record
  • 8+ years of digital media experience, with proven people management experienc
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, GAM, DSM, Lineup, Google Analytics or similar platforms
  • Extensive working experience with online media sales and responding to RFPs
  • Experience working with digital media agencies and online metrics
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressured, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines
  • Must be able to constantly prioritize workload with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects
  • Experience working with research, sales and operations to executesolutions
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to be tactical and strategic
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
