The Medical Affairs Executive Director, National Accounts is responsible for collaborating closely with the extended Field Medical Leadership Team (FMLT) to drive the overarching medical strategy based on the Squad and national strategies across organizations with national scope, including Payers, Federal, National Comprehensive Cancer Network / pathway vendors, Channel, Hospital and Distribution customers. The
Medical Affairs Executive Director, National Accounts will maintain a deep understanding of national health systems, payers, and other key influencers to shape strategies for optimized access and formulary positioning of Genentech products while at the same time seeking to improve patient outcomes and customer experience. In addition, they will identify national opportunities to advance the care continuum and the delivery of healthcare through broad clinical and population health research opportunities that include Real World Evidence (RWE) and the ability to leverage the suite of Roche assets across Flatiron, FMI, and Roche Diagnostics.
The Medical Affairs Executive Director, National Accounts will provide medical leadership for their national team and will work with the appropriate field teams to ensure national decisions are pulled through at the local level. They are also responsible for coaching, mentoring and leading the National Accounts MED team to deliver on their accountabilities. They will shape MED competencies, tools and resources that foster customer engagement with key stakeholders. The Medical Affairs Executive Director, National Accounts is also accountable for ensuring that the National Accounts MED team stays abreast of the latest innovations in the healthcare landscape and shares actionable insights with appropriate stakeholders across the organization.
Co-create a national strategy with their national accounts Vice President counterparts, incorporating key medical priorities and national accounts customer needs, in order to increase customer satisfaction, improve outcomes and lower overall healthcare costs Set a vision and lead National Accounts MED team to execute on medical strategies while leveraging Roche/ Genentech capabilities (inclusive of our medicines, services, technology, talents); hold teams accountable to deliver impact and value for their customers and ecosystem teams Lead the overall communication strategy for national accounts, leveraging regional knowledge and Squad priorities Provide strategic professional development, mentorship and coaching so that their team is empowered to deliver an enhanced end to end customer experience Collaborate with CMG field leaders to understand customer needs from a broader perspective and ensure consistency in strategic priorities and pull through of national strategies at the ecosystem level
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Set clear vision and priorities for National Accounts MED team to enable them to prioritize, plan, and implement cross portfolio or population health initiatives that are aligned with Squad and national strategies
Incorporate thorough industry and marketplace knowledge into the national strategy; timely communication to key partners to ensure execution
Lead, train, and support the National Accounts MED team by identifying opportunities for upskilling, ongoing training, and development of core competencies
Foster amongst the National Accounts MED team a spirit of cross-functional collaboration, enterprise mindset, and a culture of experimentation and innovation to create an empowered team dedicated to enhancing the customer experience
Strongly collaborate with TA MSL Field Directors to develop and drive overall portfolio strategy to be customized per National Account customer needs
Expected to create a learning journey of content expertise for National Accounts MED team and more broadly bring awareness and understanding across Field Medical
Determine allocation of resources and make investment decisions to maximize patient outcomes and customer engagement while delivering value for Genentech
In partnership with CMG field leaders, establish and manage a collaborative and customer-centric environment across ecosystem teams in order to present a unified Genentech perspective to our customers and ensure consistency in strategic priorities
Proactively represent cross-portfolio customer needs, national issues, insights and knowledge to relevant stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for collaboration and shape future organization strategies
In collaboration with Head, MED:
Establish appropriate metrics to measure customer experience based on clinical and business needs of our customers; leverage this data to enhance customer engagement and medical strategy
Develop and track key performance metrics for their National Accounts MED team in order to ensure high performance and identify opportunities for improvement, growth and learning
Is proficient in National Accounts MED role and can step in for open roles / leave of absences
Build, cultivate and leverage relationships with top tier National Accounts customers across the medical and managed care communities to ensure strong understanding of evolving healthcare trends
Accompany MEDs on 2-3 field rides per month to coach MEDs in field (typically ~70% of the time in field)
Advanced Clinical Science Degree required (MD, PharmD, MsRPH, PhD, MSN, NP, PA, etc.)
12+ years related work experience strongly preferred (managed care/health plan, hospital administration, clinical pathway or formulary decision maker, industry experience, etc.) with demonstrable evidence of successfully leading and managing a customer facing team
Outstanding healthcare landscape knowledge and business acumen required; knows the industry, Genentechs business model and value proposition, key competitors and other marketplace factors/dynamics
Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, prioritizing and management of high-level initiatives and projects to consistently deliver results required
Ability to lead complex cross-functional account teams and operate under ambiguity without a set playbook, including aligning teams; previous experience with leading, coaching, and developing people and/or teams highly preferred
Strong communication and effective collaboration skills to work across an extremely matrixed stakeholder organization (e.g., Squad, NoS partners, E4A partners, Field partners, Global partners, etc.) with proven record of influencing senior leadership without direct authority
Ongoing investment in developing self and others to enable others to achieve their potential, deliver ambitious goals or achieve excellence

This position requires significant driving of either a company provided or personal vehicle as well as prolonged periods of sitting, both of which are part of the essential duties and responsibilities of the role. This is a field-based position. Must be willing to travel overnight to meet with customers, internal stakeholders, and attend relevant conferences as needed.
