Job Description

Azul the Eagle is a key University role serving to promote the University and Athletics Brand and provide one of the key connection points between the community and the University. Azul the Eagle is FGCUs number one personality, supporter and fan. He assists with the intercollegiate athletics marketing team to promote the University and its brand. He serves as the ambassador for all things green and blue for the University. Azul attends all Alico Arena sporting events and some select other events. Also Azul is on campus and in the community to promote student and community advertising and outreach initiatives, FGCU brand awareness and game day marketing initiatives. This position works to assist the execution of game day promotion and advertising campaigns, and athletic event initiatives including pre-event planning street.

Required Qualifications

Enrolled as a degree seeking student at Florida Gulf Coast University at the time of hire and throughout the appointment.

Must have a minimum GPA 2.5 and be in good conduct standing with the University.

Strong fitness level and height between 510 and 64 to fit and compliment the appearance of Azul.

Interest in acting, sports, or theatre.

Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Ability to work outside in Floridas temperatures and weather.

Serving as Azul the Eagle for Community/University sponsorship appearances, photoshoots and video shoots.

Travel to key University events, specifically ASUN basketball tournaments.

Flexible work schedule with at least 10 hours available per week.

Preferred Qualifications

Seeking a degree in business, marketing, sports management, public relations, or hospitality.

Future interest in athletic marketing, business marketing, sales, or advertising.

Passionate sports fan and school spirit advocate with student fan group experience.

Experience or interest in practicing and developing routines and stunts with cheerleading and dance teams.

Experience leading groups and/or clubs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Interest or working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and/or experience with marketing and sales.

Skill in acting to fulfill the role of Azul the Eagle.

Ability to adapt, learn quickly, be resourceful and to meet short deadlines.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to manage their availability and monthly calendar to fulfill bookings for games and events.

Ability to understand and follow directions.

Complies with all University, ASUN Conference, and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) regulations, as applicable, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

    Perform duties as assigned that include, but are not limited to:

    Lead cheers and raise the level of fan support for FGCU intercollegiate athletics; to solicit support from FGCU fans and to project that support to the University and its teams.

    Participate by performing dance movements, stunts, etc.; to perfect this athletic activity for keeping the crowds attention/direction focused on the field/floor where the intercollegiate activity is taking place; and for entertainment purposes.

    Serve as a public relations ambassador of intercollegiate athletics and the University; to uphold, reflect, and project the goals and ideals of the University.

    Appear at University activities, functions, and programs, at charitable and public causes.

    Participates with on court promotions to support FGCU 15 Division I intercollegiate programs and our sponsors and donors.

    Create strong collaborative relationships with administrators, coaches, other athletic staff and other university personnel and students.

    Event marketing and promotions.

    Customer service and client relations.

    Street team and community awareness outreach.

    Works with marketing to develop appearance expectations and manage event and promotion expectations.

    Other Duties
