Program Description

The early care and education program at Felton Institute

offers developmental early care and education and school-readiness programs for children

birth to six years old. We provide a nurturing, developmentally challenging,

and inclusive environment to low income, at risk children and families.

Brief Job Description

As Facilities& Maintenance Supervisor, you are the backbone of the CYFTAY Division. Being a point of

contact for our employees, you will be responsible for ensuring our programs are

clean, organized, and functioning efficiently. In addition to providing support

to our leadership team by maintaining the safety and cleanliness of our programs,

you will oversee and support the current facilities team in daily operations. The key focus of

this position is the supervision of general custodial and maintenance work of all

classrooms, offices, yards and other areas at the CYFTAY sites. The Facilities

& Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing

all cleaning, repairing, and maintaining the interior and exterior of our programs.

May perform routine repair of equipment and facilities and load/unload deliverables.

In addition, coordinating and managing special projects, tracking, monitoring,

evaluating and directing operations of facility activities and maintenance

including but not limited to inventory supplies, receiving, delivery, storage,

purchasing, and inventory control and various administrative task related to

required record keeping. Liaison between building owners, SFFD, contractors,

inspectors as assigned by Operations& Facilities Director or designee.

Essential Functions:


·Review and approve all custodial timecard and time-off requests and arrange appropriate

coverage at the sites.

·Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work


·Identifies staff development and training needs, ensuring that training is obtained.

·Ensure daily schedules and objectives are met for all team members.

·Clearly communicate team goals, direct cleaning procedures and implement organizational personnel policies.

·Emphasize performance, maintain morale and ensure staffing needs are met.

·Plan, schedule, assign and evaluate work of janitorial staff, providing training to team member if necessary.

·During the absence of other Custodian/Handyperson including illness, vacation, or job vacancy,

fulfills priority tasks of that position.

·Oversee daily cleaning/maintenance of all CYFTAY facilities.

·Manage, triage, assign, and execute work orders and requests; troubleshoot unscheduled

maintenance and oversee repairs electrical, plumbing, and other miscellaneous equipment.

·Develop and implement the preventative maintenance schedule and activities for utility systems and

equipment; work instructions and checklists as required.

·Perform regular evaluations of building to ensure all areas organized and clean, assess needs

and address them accordingly.

·Supervision of a variety of maintenance/minor repair activities on the interior/exterior areas of the centers

including, but not limited to assembling new furniture, painting, drywall, minor plumbing repairs, interior and exterior lighting including lamp, fuse replacement and other special projects.

·Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities and directing the work of subordinate


·Evaluate the need for building or equipment repairs.

·Maintain worksite inventory and control distribution of supplies to team members.

·Leads and performs minor preventative maintenance under direction of the Operations& Facilities


·Manage facilities maintenance needs with 3rd party partners ie. contractors, bale pickups, Waste,


·Proactively assess the needs of the programs and partner with Operations Supervisor to address


·Manage repairs and maintenance throughout the programs as needed.

·Oversee heavy cleansing tasks and special projects (waxing, carpet cleaning, disinfection of facilities.

·Maintain a good supply of necessary cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.

·Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.

·Responsible for completing minor repairs and maintenance work orders as requested

·Perform and document inspection and maintenance activities.

·Follow all health and safety regulations.

·Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

·High School diploma or equivalent

Previous experience as a custodian/ maintenance work

· At least two years of experience supervising a team

· Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices used

· Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

· Knowledge of operation of power and manual tools.

· Knowledge of operation of light and heavy equipment.

· Valid CA Driver’s License and insured vehicle

· Ability to independently speak, understand, read and write English adequate to the meet

the needs of the job.

· Must be able to lift 60-100 pounds

· Must be able to pass a TB test upon hire.

· Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and a Child Abuse Index clearance

as required by licensing.

· Must be able to pass a physical exam, to meet Title 22 regulations as required.

Additional Information

Dept: Children, Youth and Family Division

Position: 100% Exempt

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:30 am- 5:30 pm, some evenings

& weekends required as needed

Reports to: Operations& Facilities Director

Salary: $45,000-48,000 + full benefits
