DNV GL Energy is seeking an experienced leader to join and grow our NERC Compliance practice as Principal Consultant, NERC Compliance within our Power Systems Advisory (PSA) team. Power Systems Advisory provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions as well as compliance regulatory services to stakeholders in the areas of power generation, transmission and distribution systems, including ISOs/RTOs, power utilities, developers, asset owners and operators as well as investors. The Principal Consultant, NERC Compliance must have the demonstrated vision, drive, and business experience to lead, grow and expand our NERC Compliance business in North America. This role involves business development and high-value consulting delivery contributing to PSA's overall regional success. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned consulting professional with a proven track record of client relationship development, business development, and managing effective consulting results. This position could be based out of any of the following offices: Dallas, TX (preferred); Houston, TX, Oakland, CA; Medford, MA, Arlington, VA or Chalfont, PA.Tasks may include

  • Lead the growth and development of DNV GL Energy's NERC Compliance business in North America, to position us as a recognized leader in the industry
  • Grow revenue and profit by leading business development activities including opportunity identification, pipeline management, evaluation, proposal development and submittal, and play a significant role during negotiation and establishment of contracts - Part of the identification and evaluation includes managing the proposal and lead generation process and screening of RFQ/RFP's
  • Identify and develop client solutions for assessing and managing risk
  • Manage multi-discipline project teams to ensure our commitments are fully met, and projects are successfully delivered in terms of client satisfaction, timeliness of completion, budget performance, and DNV GL standards
  • Over time, select, develop, coach, and grow a team of professionals to scale our service delivery capabilities and increase market penetration
  • Represent DNV GL as a subject matter expert in the field of FERC/NERC Compliance in industry events

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Engineering-related degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in utility operations or utility consulting with an operational emphasis, and a deep understanding of electric utility practices and operations required
  • Demonstrable understanding of FERC 693 and FERC 704 (NERC-CIP) standards, their requirement and audit process, and their implications for operational environments
  • A willingness and ability to travel on a regular basis within North America, and occasionally overseas(up to approximately 40%)
  • Ability to direct and coordinate multiple project teams and achieve on-time delivery of project assignments
  • Ability to provide clear and concise proposals, reports and presentations suitable for executive level clients
  • Experience in initiating senior executive interactions and maintaining/growing long term relationships
  • Proficiency with desktop applications including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to pass periodic 7-year NERC required background checks and drug test
  • Proven HSE mindset

Preferred Requirements

  • 3-year experience in team leadership role with demonstrable success in account development and increased revenue generation over time
  • Knowledge of the North American ISO/RTO Protocols
  • Knowledge of power system planning including knowledge of steady state, short circuit, transient stability and EMT studies
