Senior Manager R&D, Financial & Strategic Planning

The Senior Manager of Financial & Strategic Planning is a critical member of the Corporate Financial & Strategic Planning team. Reporting to the Director of R&D Financial & Strategic Planning, this position will work across R&D to support a growing organization and portfolio of development candidates. This position will partner with organizational leaders on operating budgets and forecasts, month end close, reporting activities, long range planning, as well as other ad-hoc operational or strategic decision-making support. This role will build upon established forecasting systems and processes.

Job Description / Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the financial needs and investment drivers across R&D business functions: Research, Non-Clinical, Manufacturing, and Clinical
  • Partner with department leaders to provide both operational and strategic financial analysis to drive the business
  • Provide business partner support for external partnerships/collaborations to analyze financial and operational delivery against planned spending and milestones
  • Continuously identify and communicate all risks and opportunities against the existing forecast and work with budget owners to manage their spend vs. plan
  • Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, including presentations for BOD and Dicerna leadership review
  • Support the development of long-range planning and other ad hoc analysis as applicable (BD models, headcount analysis, etc.)
  • Support continuous improvement within finance to streamline processes and reporting, driving value add insights to the business
  • Build and present month end close reporting to senior Finance and R&D leaders anticipate new reporting needs based on business or accounting requirements
  • Highlight key insights or trends that require attention and engage with budget owners on the best path forward

Ongoing support:

  • Assist accounting during month-end close with accruals and variance analysis
  • Support capital review and approval process

Required Skills / Qualifications

  • BA/BS in accounting or finance required; MBA preferred
  • 6+ years of FP&A experience; life sciences industry (Pharma / Biotech experience preferred)
  • Collaborative mindset team player
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of accounting processes/controls
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; highly proficient in Excel based modeling
  • Strong communication skills - both written and oral
  • Strong understanding of financial systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Great Plains, NetSuite) and planning and reporting tools (Adaptive Insights, Hyperion, Cognos)
