Optum is looking for a Full-Time Pediatrician/ Medical Director (.5 Pediatrician/ .5 Medical Director) to join our team in picturesque Colorado Springs.Were proudly part of OptumCare. The Pediatric Medical Director provides leadership and mentorship to all pediatric physicians, other clinicians and staff. Provides oversight of pediatric clinics within OptumCare and the Pediatric Department.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Offer, you will work collaboratively with other Medical Directors and the Executive Leadership Team to help shape and meet the strategic goals and objectives of the Medical Group.

You bring to the table relevant experience in developing a specialty medical program combined with excellent leadership, relationship-building, strategic planning and operations experience.. You are also fluent in managed care financial concepts (capitation, IBNR, and MLR)

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Required: Fully licensed as a pediatrician in the state of Colorado, or able to obtain CO license.

Preferred: Masters Degree in related filed (MRA,MPH,MHA)
EXPERIENCE

Required:

Two (2) years experience at senior leadership level in medical group or network

Five (5) years experience as a practicing pediatrician preferably in a medical group

Preferred:

Experience in both fee-for-service and managed care operations

LICENSURE

Required: Current MD/DO medical license in the state of Colorado, Board Certified or in the process of obtaining certification unless granted an exemption by Credentialing Committee. Colorado DEA Registration

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to comfortably use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Thorough understanding of medical group business models and clinical processes.

Excellent understanding of medical group financial concepts, including revenue cycle, physician compensation models, and preferably including managed care financial concepts (capitation, IBNR, and MLR)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads and manages the operations of pediatric medical programs, patient clinics or company initiatives. Trains and supervises Lead Pediatricians engaged in pediatric care activities and procedures as appropriate. Provides financial leadership; Profit & Loss (P&L)/ business management training to Lead Pediatricians. Provides leadership coaching and developmental feedback to Lead Pediatricians and other clinicians throughout the year. Collaborate with ELT to implement an infrastructure and system in place to measure quality and provide timely data to physicians on their performance. Implement measurable quality indicators. Recruit, hire, train, develop and manage Lead Pediatricians, other clinicians and support staff to meet the needs of the departments/clinics. Directs and integrates the activities of multiple and major projects; ensuring the project efforts are generally cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the Medical Groups mission, goals, and strategic plan. Represents the pediatrics department to internal and external communities, business and industry, government, foundation and the general community. Promote and enhance the image of Optum, the department and participate in appropriate professional and academic organizations. Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
