This position is for a Senior Research Associate that will lead and participate in projects related to hot glass forming. The candidate will build knowledge and develop new glass forming processes, and also address challenges on existing processes at times. They will assess process feasibility by using analytical modeling skills but will also work with project teams on experiments including directly with hot glass. The candidate will work in a team environment, will have opportunity to perform independent work, and also build collaborations with other research and development groups. The candidate will work on projects of shared objectives with other groups within research, as well as with development and engineering.
Day to Day Responsibilities: Designing, executing experiments, and interpreting data that will correlate theory and modeling to experimental results. Communication and interaction with project managers and other team members; must be able to provide guidance to technicians on experiments, expectations, and be able to document results in the form of technical reports and invention disclosures.
Travel Requirements: 10%, possible limited international
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 – 50 hours, generally 8-5 M-F with some flexibility
Required Education: PhD in mechanical engineering/material science or related field. Would consider candidates with MS degrees and extensive experience.
Required Years and Area of Experience: 10+ years of experience with process design and process modeling, preferably experience in glass forming processes.
