**Description:** **BASIC FUNCTION:** The Transcriptionist transcribes dictation for physicians on patients who are or have been seen in the various hospital settings. Reports must be transcribed completely and accurately in order to provide quality patient care. Employee assures timely completion and distribution of the report to the best of his/her ability. Will perform other work related tasks as directed by supervisor or department director. Maintains a professional attitude at all times. **NATURE AND SCOPE:** The position interacts with various medical center departments' employees, mainly via e-mail and phone. **PRINCIPAL** **ACCOUNTABILITIES:** Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital. Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients. Transcribes medical dictation for staff physicians on patients who are or have been seen in the various hospital settings. Reports must be transcribed completely and accurately in order to provide quality patient care. Employee assures timely completion and distribution of the report to the best of his/her ability. Accurately transcribes dictated or edits speech-recognized reports, consistently maintaining 98% QA scores. Utilizes appropriate format for each type of report. Follows policies and procedures for the Transcription Department as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual. Provides continuous transcription capability to the physicians including transcribing from cassettes if necessary according to downtime procedures. Will perform other work related tasks as directed by supervisor or department director as assigned. Maintains a professional attitude at all times. Demonstrates service excellence in performance of job duties. **CORE COMPETENCIES:** Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values. Ability to understand diverse accents, dialects, and varying dictation styles. In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines (AHDI Book of Style) and practices. Excellent acoustical skills. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
