The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.
Operating out of Bronx County Criminal Court, Bronx Community Solutions (BCS)offers criminal justice programming in the areas of pretrial diversion programming through regular monitoring and referral services to misdemeanor and non-violent felony defendants whose cases are pending; and alternative to Incarceration programming for non-violent crimes by providing additional sentencing options for non-violent offenders. These programs reduce the reliance on pre-trial detention and short-term jail sentences and offers defendants the assistance they need to avoid further criminal conduct.
The Overdose and Recovery Avoidance (OAR) program is a pre-plea diversion program being implemented in collaboration with the Bronx Judiciary, District Attorney's Office, Defense Counsel and several community-based health providers. The program provides meaningful engagement treatment opportunities to individuals in the Bronx arrested for possession of a controlled substance. This is an innovative, new response to low-level possession of a controlled substance, an effort to be smarter about prosecuting opioids addiction -- those who are high utilizers of multiple systems and at risk for overdose -- by providing a public health approach to conventional court proceedings that rely on jail or the threat of jail as the corrective measure.
Bronx Community Solutions is seeking a Case Manager to provide extensive case monitoring to program participants and service providers to help promote and facilitate program treatment outcomes of meaningful engagement. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Case Manager will coordinate the treatment referral process, initial assessment and compliance monitoring to ensure timely and responsive participant engagement and outcomes. This position is also responsible for providing court coverage to arraignments and specialized OAR court initiatives.
