Summary Of Essential Job Duties: Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings. The Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects. The Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 1. Performs a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of new complex or unusual protocols and techniques. 2. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results and assists in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results. 3. Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations. 4. Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment. 5. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research. 6. Assists in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings. 7. Orients research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures. 8. Animal Surgical Area: Ensure animal surgical surfaces and equipment are clean and organized. Ensure animal surgical area is compliant with all CSMC and Comparative Medicine policies and procedures. 9. Ensure pharmaceuticals are dispensed per protocol, appropriate supplies maintained, secured and disposed of according to established policies and procedures. 10. May perform in vivo and in vitro imaging for rats, mice and cells for luciferase; real time in vivo and in vitro biophotonic technology using both fluorescent and bioluminescent. 11. May perform micro vascular surgery on rats and mice by implanting catheters into femoral arteries, femoral veins and carotid arteries for drug infusion studies. 12. Prepare cells for tumor implantation and intracranial tumor implantation for rats and mice (using stereotaxic surgery technique). 13. Systemic implantation of metastatic tumors in mice; perfuse fixing rats with paraformaldehyde, tail vein injection in mice, oral gavaging the rodents and mice; vaccination and survival studies and measure the permeability constant using quantitative auto radiography. 14. Performs routine biomedical experimental protocols such as Western Analysis, FACS (Fluorescent Associated Cell Sorting), Cell Cycle arrest, WST-1 (water soluble Tetrazolium salt) Cell Proliferation Assay, Extracting Proteins and RNA, RT-PCR, Potentiometry experiments (measuring the cell membrane potential), Cell Transfection, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry Education: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in neurosciences or related field. Experience: Two (2) years of laboratory experience. Understanding of general research objectives. Applicant must be highly motivated and able to work independently. Must have superior interpersonal, communication and organization skills and the ability to work across multiple disciplines and functional units. Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word. Cedars-Sinai is an EEO employer.
