Administer leaves of absence and FMLA requests. Effectively coordinate all cases/claims to include general administration, comprehensive case management and program compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and all related federal and state laws. Provide exemplary customer service and assistance to associates, executives and Human Resources business partners.


Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Under limited supervision, serve as a skilled resource for the leaves of absence and FMLA/state leave entitlement programs, in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of Benefits Administration Supervisor.
  • Interpret and administer leaves of absence and FMLA/state leave entitlement programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state laws.
  • Administer all aspects of leaves of absence and FMLA/state leave entitlement programs.
  • Provide extensive case management and coordinate administrative aspects of the cases and claims.
  • Independently approve and/or deny leaves of absence and FMLA or state leave entitlement requests based on relevant medical information.
  • Coordinate and organize all medical information and ensure that HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed.
  • Maintain appropriate contact and work closely with associates and managers to ensure all processes are completed timely.
  • Respond to questions and requests regarding Human Systems policies and procedures and leaves of absence and FMLA/state leave entitlement programs.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent education and related training
  • Two or more years of experience in administering leave programs, FMLA/state leave entitlement programs
  • Ability to analyze information and convert related activities into a comprehensive work plan
  • Ability to communicate and make recommendations to management
  • Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to multi-task and drive multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, time management and priority setting skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight
