ResponsibilitiesThe Senior or Lead level Product Designer leads the creation of a positive customer experience with existing and new products through the development of a scalable and repeatable product design process as an advocate for the students, teachers, parents, administrators and the many other ACT users we serve. While the focus of this role is on product design, it also offers a unique opportunity to build skills and expertise in product management as this position is embedded in the ACT Product team. The Product Designer works in the SAFe Agile Framework and is continuously exposed to a variety of projects and people across the organization. The level at which this position will be filled is determined by the qualifications of the finalist.Typical work-related activities include: Lead product design (UX) strategy development and implementation that includes identifying features and functionalities for new and existing products and ensuring consistency of process implementations Conduct customer research by directly observing end-users to gain insight on features as well as current pain points Advocate for simplicity and a holistic product and service experiences for our customers Interpret product and business requirements and user goals into product solutions using product design best practices Iteratively produce low-fidelity interaction concept designs (including navigation and content design), as well as mid- and / or hi-fidelity interaction detailed designs Collaborate with key stakeholders and project teams on product design recommendation Provide UX / heuristic / expert reviews of existing or newly produced systems Annotate expected design behaviors, features and requirements Stay current with new product design trends, tools and best or emerging practices and make recommendations to bring them into the ACT product design strategyQualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in a related area required, preferably in design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, media, product, industrial), HCI, or CS Master's degree preferred Completed UX certifications or courses (Cooper, Nielsen Norman Group, HFI, etc.) preferred Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible user design experience which includes creating and editing within Balsamiq, Sketch, Axure, OmniGraffle, or similar prototyping applications Acquired knowledge and expertise of HTML, CSS and JavaScript required Previous experience and demonstrated success collaborating with stakeholders and leading project teams required Design experience within an agile development process preferred Product development experience desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated design and problem solving abilities communicated via a design portfolio and work samples Demonstrated ability to: Design for responsive layouts Lead design thinking sessions Interview, observe and understand primary and / or secondary users Test user's ability to use and understand navigation, information architecture and key areas in designs Apply visual design theory to improve upon interaction designs Produce high quality visual designs with the Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools Leveraged Bootstrap, jQuery and / or similar frameworks within designs Demonstrates excellent leadership, communication, presentation and collaboration skills Thinks big and solves complex problems Excels at pattern recognition Displays patience, understanding, humility and willingness to give and receive constructive feedback Is self-motivated, able to work independently and can manage multiple projects under minimal supervision Ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment, work both collaboratively with a team and independently, and prioritize and manage multiple complex projects Ability to learn and apply product development concepts and strategiesSDL2017 * The salary listed in the header is an estimate based on salary data for similar jobs in the same area.
