The Translational Pathology & Tissue Analytics group is seeking a translational pathologist to drive scientific strategy for translational tissue-based biomarker development & discovery target validation/MOA projects, lead pathology collaborative programs, conduct histopathological evaluation & analysis of IHC & other tissue-based studies, and provide technical/scientific guidance to histo technicians & pathology scientists.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Discovery and Translational teams as pathologist scientist to design appropriate pathology experiments to help achieve specific goals and to interpret pathology findings in the context of the overall project.
  • Guide antibody selection, qualification, & IHC assay development/ verification for determining target expression and biomarker analysis in both FFPE/OCT whole tissues and tissue microarrays to support multiple small molecule and biologics programs.
  • Design experiments using these assays, evaluate & summarize IHC results in the context of the larger project to answer scientific questions, prepare presentations and interact with cross-functional teams to support IHC and pathology needs for different programs.
  • Guide development, application, and analysis of other tissue-based assay development as needed (ISH, DSP, multiplex) as above in collaboration with the pathology lab & project scientists to support specific scientific & clinical questions in multiple small molecule and biologics programs.
  • Serve as pathologist consultant for colleagues in other groups to help develop molecular, cellular and in vivo assays & models - e.g. qualify human tissue, determine specimen collections & processing, confirm models reflect human disease.
  • Drive scientific strategy for translational biomarker development & discovery target validation/MOA projects, lead pathology collaborative programs, coordinate and establish both internal and external collaborations
  • Utilize clinical pathology & cancer biology knowledge to help adopt research/translational tissue-based biomarker assays for use in the clinic
  • Serve as an integral member of drug discovery and development teams & interface with internal and external biology, biomarker, genomics, in vivo and toxicology groups to deliver novel therapeutic clinical candidates.


Required/Preferred Skills:
  • MD and/or DVM +/- PhD in a relevant field with 8+ years of pathology research focusing in Oncology experience, preferably in the biopharma industry.
  • Board certification (AP +/- CP) preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
  • Knowledge of oncology biomarkers/CDX as used in the clinic to direct therapy required.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process and how pathology fits within this required.
  • Must have at least 3+ years' experience in immunohistochemistry interpretation, antibody selection, and optimization of IHC protocols (FFPE and OCT); including experience in novel target assay development. Experience with other tissue-based assay development and interpretation (ISH, multiplex, etc.) is highly preferred.
  • Digital pathology experience (digital slide analysis & image analysis) with Oncology focus preferred.
  • Relevant cancer biology, target validation, and biomarker research experience in the areas of apoptosis, immune-oncology, DNA repair, epigenetics, ADC, & biologic therapies.
  • Proven leadership ability to direct or lead technical/scientific studies.
  • Strong presentation skills required, with the ability to present data successfully to scientists & technicians with diverse scientific backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work in a team-oriented environment consisting of diverse scientists, technicians, managers, clinicians, and others.
