Research and Development Engineer (Software Developer) The Visual Analytics Department in the Visualization and Decision Support Division of The Communications, Information, and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Software Developer to join our team as a Research and Development Engineer. In this position, you will be joining a dynamic team of developers and engineers that are dedicated to building data analytics and visualization tools to support the Department of Defense (DoD) by using agile processes to create solutions to new and novel complex problems. Responsibilities include: Designing, developing, debugging, deploying, and maintaining software systems that can process large amounts of complex data and turn it into actionable information. Preferred Experience in/with: Hadoop, NoSQL, and traditional SQL interfaces An active security clearance Required experience / skills include: Software development Java Programming skills Education: This job will be filled as a level 1 or level 2 depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or Software Engineering is preferred. Candidates will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. These are one year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
